During the meetings, they met with Dr. Napapong Pongnapang, President of the International Society of Radiographers and Radiological Technologists (ISRRT), the world’s leading umbrella organization in the fields of radiography and radiotherapy, as well as Patrizia Cornacchione, President of the European Federation of Radiographer Societies (EFRS), an academic expert in radiography, oncological sciences, and radiotherapy.

The discussions focused on current educational approaches in radiography and medical imaging, curricula of undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs, professional development processes, and opportunities for international cooperation. The parties exchanged views on developing joint projects in the fields of education and scientific research. In addition, positive discussions were held regarding international participation in the association’s congress planned for next year.

As part of the congress, Mehmet Erkek, Chair of the Scientific Board of the Turkish Medical Radiotechnology Association, presented a scientific study entitled “Determination of Typical Dose Levels in Mammography Examinations Using Different Methods and Comparison of These Methods.”

The presentation, which focused on determining typical dose levels in mammography examinations using different methods and comparing these approaches, attracted considerable interest from participants.

The meetings, held in a highly productive, constructive, and sincere atmosphere, emphasized that international professional organizations are ready to support the educational and scientific activities of the Turkish Medical Radiotechnology Association. Concluding with mutual messages of goodwill and cooperation, the meetings made a significant contribution to strengthening the association’s international visibility and professional collaborations.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Balkan Congress organizing committee.

I feel a great honor and responsibility to have assumed the presidency of the Turkish Medical Radiotechnology Association in its new term. While assuming this important duty, I would like to state that we set out with the aim of creating a stronger, more visible and more effective professional community together.

The field of medical imaging, which is an indispensable part of the health system, is gaining more and more importance every day in line with the rapidly developing technology and increasing health service needs. We should not only keep up with this change, but also take a guiding stance. For this purpose, increasing vocational training opportunities, supporting scientific studies, defending our professional rights and actively including our young colleagues in the process will be among our priority goals in the upcoming period.

In this process, our greatest strength will be the knowledge, experience and contribution of you, our valuable colleagues. As the Turkish Medical Radiotechnology Association, I have full faith that we will work together to establish a more participatory, transparent and productive structure and I await your contributions.

Dear colleagues;

After approximately 2.5 years, we came together on October 20-24, 2021 at Antalya/Lara Titanic Hotel for the 15th National Radiotechnology Congress and Training Seminars. We also held our association’s ordinary general assembly together with our congress. I would like to thank all speakers, company representatives and all my valuable colleagues who attended our congress and supported our association.

At our congress, we talked about the pandemic process with our colleagues who are fighting at the forefront of the COVID-19 pandemic, which is seen in our country as well as the whole world. We discussed the difficulties experienced and solution suggestions. In order to reduce unnecessary radiation exposure, we discussed the problems in the field with the officials of the Ministry of Health and presented our solution suggestions. We explained the importance of appropriate medical justification in examination requests. Our association took part as a project partner in the calculation of the National Reference Levels, which are supported by the International Atomic Energy and cover the years 2022-2023, together with the Ministry of Health and Tenmak. Our project manager informed our colleagues about the subject and raised awareness. The main topic of our congress, patient dose, was a subject that all our colleagues followed with interest. The high participation in our patient dose calculation course in tomography and mammography made us very happy. Our modality manufacturing companies told us about the current developments in these subjects. Our association, which has emphasized since its establishment that the way to increase the knowledge and skills of our colleagues and to have a professional say in the national and international arena is through education, fulfilled its responsibility in this regard this year and contributed to informing our colleagues with the 15th national radiotechnology congress and training seminars.

We, as devoted employees of medical imaging who believe that all citizens living in our country should receive effective and qualified health services, who love their country, nation and flag, are ready to do our part in this regard. With the slogan “Unity is strength”, I invite all our friends who want to contribute to our profession to work together under the roof of our association. I would like to thank our association members who reauthorized us in our general assembly held together with our congress on behalf of myself and my colleagues on the board of directors and present my greetings with love, respect and reverence.

We are celebrating World Radiology Day on November 8.

On November 8, radiologists, radiology technicians and those working in related fields will celebrate the 129th anniversary of the invention of X-rays in Turkey and around the world on November 8, World Radiology Day.

November 8 World Radiology Day is an annual event organized to raise awareness of the value of radiology to safe patient care and to improve understanding of the vital role that radiologists and radiology technicians play in the health care process.

We therefore celebrate and commemorate November 8, the day Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen discovered the existence of X-Rays in 1895, as a day of action and awareness.

Climate change is currently being experienced by the world, and human activities are the primary driver of long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns. Several sectors, including radiology departments of each hospital in the world emit greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide. About 4.4% of the global net CO2 emissions come from the healthcare sector, and radiology departments that use high-energy-consuming medical imaging equipment are vital players.

This survey aims to heed the call for climate change action by understanding how most radiology institutions worldwide understand emission sources from imaging activities and how a single department can take meaningful steps toward achieving a greener and more sustainable radiology department.
